I recently finished watching the 1999 Hallmark version of
Alice in Wonderland a few minutes ago. And just like the Disney version of
Alice, I'm going to give my say on it.
*drumroll*
. . . I thought it was
SMASHING.

Seriously. All while watching it, I felt like I was really in Wonderland itself. The graphics were amazing, and the settings of each location in Wonderland, though not exactly going with where they were originally written in the books, gave a new insight and prespective to the scene. (The library where the caucus-race happened reminded me so much of 3 and 4's library!

) The acting was also fantastic - all the actors made all the Wonderlanders very interesting and fit for the craziness of the place. Tina Majorino was spectacular as Alice - heck, she might as well
be Alice herself. I commend whoever did the casting for this film, they were very good at choosing the right people. The props and puppets were amazing as well. Hooray for the Jim Henson Company! ^^
But what made me very happy about it was the faithfulness to the books. They really put so much effort in keeping Lewis Carroll's story intact. Even going so far with their costumes - many of the character's costumes and graphics were notably faithful to John Tenniel's original illustrations. And the original elements they added to the story (Alice's stage fright, the magic apple, the March Hare's teapot-organ, etc.) did not ruin the story. Rather, it enhanced it and made it more interesting. It's rather intriguing, the concept of other reasons for Alice to go down the rabbit-hole aside from boredom. Also, I love the humor in the film - very fitting for Wonderland!
All in all, I recommend that you see the 1999 version of
Alice in Wonderland. Though nothing can beat the original books, I can safely say that this movie adaptation would make even Lewis Carroll smile. If you want a dose of nonsensical humor, magical scenery/graphics, quirky characters and a good moral lesson, then this film is for you.

On a slightly-related topic: I can't wait to see Tim Burton's version of
Alice in March!

I also want to see the 1985 version - Ringo Starr's in it as the Mock Turtle! :3

Hmm . . . Somehow, dA won't let me change the Mood emoticon . . . I'm not at all feeling sorrowful; I've just seen a wonderful film! How could I be?! >_> Ah well.
