Literature Text

Stroke upon stroke
For the past few weeks
Trying to get my hand to work
Until the characters are smooth
And clear enough to read
I can now write your name

When you get back home
And the seasons go back from two
To four
Don't forget the warm sunny days
And the cold rainy days
That made your stay worthwhile

If only I knew more words
And how to string them well
Then maybe we would've talked more
And knew each other better
But even then, you understood
And still we could laugh and smile

The rising sun waits for you
She says she misses your smile
Your laughter, your good heart
You miss her too
But when you said goodbye today
You were crying

Pearls shine brightest in sunlight
So take this one home with you
Please don't forget us
Take my penstrokes with you too
So that if you read the words
You would be taken back here

So then
My dear friend
Mata ashita
Until we meet again
'tomodachi' - Japanese; "friend"

===*===

I'm going to keep my artist's comments short for now.

When I started college, I joined their Japanese culture and language organization, and through the org I met this Japanese exchange student, who's one of the sweetest and friendliest people ever. Though I haven't hung out with her enough and I can't speak her language very well, she's my friend and I consider her special to me. She's going back home to Japan on Sunday, and today we held a send-off dinner for her and for the other exchange students who were leaving. This is something about that.

I'm going to miss her.

This is lovely, Nat! :aww: It would be wonderful if you and she ever got to meet again.
